Jerry Storvik
January 25, 1941 – January 11, 2022

Our beloved Husband and Father, Jerry Lawrence Storvik passed away peacefully at home due to complications of Parkinson's on Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Jerry was born in Seattle on January 25, 1941 to his Parents, Gertrude and Lawrence Storvik. He is survived by his Wife Linda Storvik and Daughter Stephanie Storvik, Sister Julie (Jim) Powell, Brother in law Aza Summers, Nieces: Jennifer (Gary) Martini, Michelle Powell, Jenna Hawkes, Tehila Derfler, and Yris Mitchell. Nephew: Michael Powell. Great nieces and nephews: JoDee Newton, Jerry Powell, Tommy and Jake Cole, Gunnar Hawkes, Linda Wilkins, Ely Covey, Aliyah, Ruth and Boaz. Cousins Jon (Lori) Ray, Laurie (Bill) Radford, Lisa Randall, and Marta Randall.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Jerry loved the Pacific Northwest. He enlisted in the Army in 1959, spent most of his time in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1962. A few days after returning home to Seattle, Jerry started working on the waterfront as a Longshoreman with Local 19, joining his father Lawrence, who was then a Chief Supervisor running Terminals. A very proud and active member of ILWU, Jerry was promoted and transferred to Local 52 in 1980 and served as an executive board member, trustee and dispatcher.

Throughout his time on the docks, he worked as a stevedore, crane operator, checker, and supervisor. Jerry was famous for his diligence, humor, high-powered flashlights, and savvy card playing (his favorites were tonk and poker). People describe him as a mentor, someone who took the time to teach others how to correctly and safely do the job. He retired in 2005, and continued to be an active member of the Seattle ILWU Pensioners Club, attending meetings and regular luncheons of both active and retired Longshoremen (and Women!).

Jerry loved to sail, fish and visit family in Montana. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed researching ancestry and connecting with relatives around the world. His photography from the many years spent on the Seattle Waterfront has been featured by local historians, capturing the beauty and pride of his hometown, especially our Waterfront. Family was everything to Jerry, and he dearly loved spending time with us.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held sometime this Summer when friends and family can travel and gather safely. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in his name to any of these charities: Safe Crossings Foundation, a local Children's Grief Support Nonprofit https://safecrossingsfoundation.org/ or either of these Parkinson's organizations: The Michael J Fox Foundation https://www.michaeljfox.org/ or the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation https://nwpf.org/ . A virtual guest book with information, photos, loving stories, memories and testimonials is at www.washelli.com . Thank you for your love, support and well wishes.
