Frank Holberg
1928 - 2023

Frank P. Holberg, age 95, was born in Seattle, WA on May 6, 1928, to his parents Frank J. and Alma Holberg. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children on November 12, 2023, after a short illness.

As a hard-working young man, Frank grew up and spent most of his life in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood and was a graduate of Ballard High School and the University of Washington.

A bus ride to an all-city high school dance serendipitously started a life-long love affair when Dad met Holy Angels High School student Dolores Barbara Lannon. Frank and Dolores married on June 10, 1950, their marriage spanned over 66 years, and they were blessed with 10 children.

Dad was part of the Greatest Generation and his life was underscored by his commitment to the values of faith, family, service, and hard work. As a long-time parishioner of St. Alphonsus Church, Dad practiced his faith by attending daily mass, praying the Rosary, and offering service to others. He spent many years helping those in need by preparing meals through the Sacred Heart Shelter, as well as distributing aid through the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

To support his growing family, Dad worked the docks along the Seattle waterfront for over 40 years as a proud and active member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Through his dedication to working 6 days a week, over most of his work life, Dad instilled a strong work ethic in all his 10 children. Through his work, he established and enjoyed life-long friendships among the many colorful characters who worked alongside him on the docks.

Dad had a passion for all things family. He took great joy in phoning his 10 children, 29 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren on their birthdays to sing "Happy Birthday!" These phone calls were greatly anticipated by all, regardless of age. There was nothing more special than when you picked up the phone to the merry sound of his singing voice!

Dad was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, in 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents and older siblings (Kathryn, Robert, and William). He leaves behind his 10 children and their spouses: Michael (Susan), Patrick (Thuy), Timothy (Jill Bliss), John, Christina Nys (Mike), Martin (Alyson Stewart), Lisa Walsh (Patrick), Nicolette Gacke (Kevin), Glenn (Michele) and Frank Jr. (Kristie); 29 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law Arlene Kretschman and her husband Joseph; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends.
