Steven Robert Arneberg
1958 - 2025
"Steve"
Steven Robert "Steve" Arneberg was born on June 22, 1958, in Tacoma, Washington, to Robert and Elaine Arneberg. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1976. Steve passed away at home in Tacoma, Washington, on February 25, 2025, at the age of 66 after battling an aggressive brain cancer.
In 1976, Steve began his career as a longshoreman at the Port of Tacoma, following in the footsteps of his grandfathers, Carl Arneberg and Chester Barker. Over the years, he worked his way up to become one of the top veteran crane drivers. In 2012, he transferred from Local 23 to Local 98, and after 47 years on the waterfront, he retired in December 2023.
Steve found joy in spending time with family and friends. He loved fishing, camping, hiking, golfing, collecting rocks, and traveling. A passionate sports fan, he cheered for the Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders, and Kraken.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his father, Robert; his children, Jennifer and Kraig (Alex); his siblings, Kathy, Cheryl (Jim), Danny (Carol), and Kevin (Carey); as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends. His beloved dogs-Bronx, Ellie, and Karma-were also a cherished part of his life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine.
A heartfelt thank you to Jennifer Wilson, Jodi Johns, Tony Fohn, Kevin Arneberg, Larry and Laurie Dally, Erin Walton, and Anna & Ali Williams for their dedicated care and support.
