PCPA Executive Board Meeting
September 12, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM,
Sunday, September 12,2004 at the Radisson
Hotel Villa in Burnaby, B.C., Canada by Arne Auvinen, President.
In attendance were: Arne Auvinen, President; Joe
Lucas, Vice President; Al Perisho, Secretary; Barbara Lewis, Treasurer and
Delegates: Lou Loveridge, LA/Long Beach; Cleophas Williams, San Francisco Bay
Area; Ken Swicker, Longview; Darel Headman, Tacoma; Bill Roberts, Small WA
Ports; George Gorick, Columbia River; Paul McCabe, Seattle; Bill Duncan,
Van-Isle, Canada and Frank Kennedy, Vancouver, Canada as well as a delegate from
the Coos Bay Area.
There was a moment of silence for deceased
brothers and sisters.
Coast Committeeman Joe Wenzl spoke and in reply to
questions regarding PMA CEO Joseph Miniace's retirement confirmed that Miniace
had actually been fired. He is now suing PMA because he didn't get his bonus
"golden parachute" and ironically, he lost his medical coverage. What
goes around comes around.
Treasurer, Barbara Lewis reported a total of 2671
paid up members. This is down from last years total of 2785.
However, Coos Bay reports an increase of 46 new members and Seattle an
increase of 54. As
our old members pass away we need to recruit the new retirees. The
Alaska guests were accepted as non-voting members until their organized clubs
are able to pay per capita dues. The Hawaii guests maintain guest status until
they are able to organize clubs and pay dues.
Frank Wright (La/Longbeach
Credit Union) spoke on the efforts of the banking industry to tax credit unions.
Our Australian guest, Bill Bowdenham spoke on forming an International
Conference of Maritime Veteran (Retiree) Organizations. Resolutions were
accepted on these two subjects as well as a resolution for support of a single
payer health plan and one reaffirming our political policy statement (defeating
Bush, ect.). Resolutions were to be voted on by the general body at the
Convention.
Adjourned until the Mid-term meeting in San
Francisco. Respectfully submitted,
Paul S. McCabe,
Delegate Local 19, Pensioners' Club
