ILWU Christmas for Kids 2000
by Curt Cunningham
January 15, 2001

We wish to thank everyone who contributed to the ILWU Christmas for Kids program. With your help we were able to distribute toys and enough food for over 60 families and over 200 children. We also sent over 400 gifts to the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Guild for the children of the newspaper strikers.

Next year we plan to help out at least 100 families and their children. We will be accepting donations throughout the year. We also plan to have plenty of raffles and a bake sale or two down at the Hall. Our office is now located in room #101 of the Dispatch Hall. We should have our own phone installed soon. The Christmas for Kids staff consists of Darla Love - Director, Becky Edson – Fundraising coordinator, Leona Cunningham – Office manager, and Curt Cunningham – IT & Warehouse manager. The staff thanks you for making this program a success.

About the program

For over 20 years, local longshoremen and their families have given time and resources to ensure that those less fortunate in our community are able to enjoy the simple pleasures of the Holiday Season that most of us take for granted. In 1986 the Charitable Services Foundation, a non-profit organization, was formed to expand on these outreach endeavors.

With the help of local businesses, community organizations, and individual volunteers families in need are identified and selected by the Foundation’s Review Committee. These families receive enough food to help them through the entire Holiday Season, while children receive personalized, wrapped gifts complete with a card signed by Santa.

The Foundation solicits support through food drives, toy drives, and monetary contributions, as well as the charitable donations of local businesses and Organizations.

The Charitable Services Foundation is a Non-Profit Organization with no paid employees. Using a volunteer staff enables us to transfer more of the donations directly to the Outreach.  All contributions are tax deductible.

Donations can be sent to:
