A REST HOME PROBLEM
We haven't dealt
with problems in rest homes very much, but they are of concern to many of our
members who face the possibility of rest home incarceration at colossal costs
and poor treatment.
One problem of real neglect came to our attention recently:
A young person took his Dad to a rest home where he was to stay. He
wheeled him in his wheelchair, set him to one side and went over to do the
paperwork.
While he was
thus busy, in a short while his father began to lean to one side in his
wheelchair. Immediately a nurse grabbed a pillow, came over, straightened him up
and pushed a pillow between that side and the arm of the wheel chair. After
another short while Dad started to lean to the other side. Again the nurse
hurried over, straightened him up and put another pillow between him and that
side. Well, in a short time again old Dad started to lean forward and the nurse
rushed over with a pillow, straightened him up and pushed a pillow in his lap.
The son noticed
this quick attention and was impressed. Finishing the paper work, the son took
his Dad to his assigned room, settled him in and left him saying he would check
on him the next day to see how things were going.
Arriving
there the next day, he asked his Dad how they were treating him.
" Oh. pretty good, I guess", replied his Dad,
"except for one thing".
"What's that?", asked the son.
"They won't let me fart", replied his Dad.
