Fall 2003
From TANK NELSON, Morro Bay, CA. - who is becoming a regular So.
California RUSTY HOOK correspondent. He sends us many interesting
clippings and were sorry we can't use all of them for lack of space - but
we do appreciate his help. "$20.00 for donuts. Laugh lots!"
Thanks, TANK.
Among the clips he sent, besides a couple of his own columns, is
one listing the contents of Coca Cola:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will
dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches Calcium
from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck
must use hazardous material placards reserved for corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines
of their trucks for about 20 years! Now the question is, would you like a
glass of water or Coke?"
From ROBERT GUY CASO, Port Angeles, WA.
ROBERT sends in money for Lifetime dues and 5 years assessments.
Way to go, ROBERT!
From JOHN BARRETT, Tucson, AZ.
"Hello
To all my friends in Local 19 and 52. Take this $100.00 and pay my back
dues and throw the rest in the pot. Its been great down here in Tucson. I
miss Seattle, but the weather and golf is so nice it makes up for the
loss.
This is a
terrible non-union state. They work these guys in the heat and pay them
whatever they can get away with. The border is close and its a mess, but
you can divide the pie so many ways.
JOHN BARRETT."
Will do, and thanks, JOHN.
"Dear TERRY
I received a letter from RUDY that says I owe $12.00 for dues from last
year. Tell Rudy I have a lifetime membership. I have enclosed $50.00 for
convention and other things. You can use as needed.
Thanks, DON BURFITT."
Thanks, DON.
From JOHN VLASIC. Port Orchard, WA.
JOHN sends $15.00 for 2003 - 2007 dues and $35.00 credited to the RUSTY
HOOK.
Thank you, JOHN.
From LONNIE NELSON, (daughter of BURT NELSON), sends in a clipping
from the SKANNER, Seattle, that reports,
"Tacoma Duo Wins Paul Robeson Award."
'Willie Adams and Mike Chambers, both Tacoma longshoremen, were
honored for organizing a popular event known as "Black and Labor
History" they put on in Tacoma each year. ...
"The idea
behind the event is to draw Black history and labor together. The labor
movement supported African Americans even before civil rights, and as
speaker Ozzie Davis said last year, labor was the first area in the
working world where African American workers found jobs."
Thanks, LONNIE. We need more information on Black-Labor relations as we will
have to unite to defeat what we both consider the enemy - the Bush crowd
for war and fascism.
