"The ILWU was girding for its fight with the PMA over basic contract demands and Jeremiah Taylor wanted to do his bit. His Local was putting on a Review that coming Saturday for money for a potential strike fund. As an acknowledged charmer, JT offered to seduce 17 women on stage.

Saturday eve came and people were hanging from rafters and columns. JT walked on stage smartly, performed with the first lady but seemed really tired. With the second he looked exhausted. With the third he passed out.

As he was being stretchered off stage he was heard to murmur, "I can't understand what happened. Everything went so well at rehearsals this afternoon."
