Summer 2003
They know that our pension welfare cannot be left to others. The
Pacific Coast Pensioners Association's attention and support to our pension and
welfare is the same as our Longshore Union is to the welfare of Longshore Union
members.
The Union and
Pension Clubs represent and defend their members' interests. If our Pension
Clubs were to go out of existence - did not get the active support of Pensioners
- The union would not be informed of our needs. In fact, if we did not have our
Club, our needs would gradually become ignored at critical periods of labor
relations negotiations. This is not to say the union would deliberately ignore
our needs - they have never done that. But unless we are at their side when they
need our advice and cooperation, they will lose touch. Our role is to keep them
in touch with pensioners needs.
Our Club plays
another real need - a social need. We keep our headquarters open so members can
socialize, have coffee and donuts, chat with fellow members, keep in touch with
what's happening on the front. There is no reason for any Old Timer leading a
lonely life. We are there for you. Instead of being glued to the armchair and
the tube and feeling alone, c'mon down to our headquarters and shoot the breeze
with the brothers. They are a likable bunch willing to listen and offer comfort
In these troubling times. You will be welcomed and appreciated by our Pension
Club officers who do a real unpaid service to all our members in keeping the
headquarters ship shape.
So c'mon down
and see us sometime - you'll like us! Join the Club. Join the cause for defense
of your interests and the interests of all pensioners.
