LOCAL 518 Samplers / Testers rally
Vancouver, BC April 9, 1999

This rally coincided with the visit of the ITF ship The Global Mariner and was held in support of ILWU Local 518.
Since local 518's original certification in 1972, BCMEA member companies have required the use of union personnel sampling and surveying to maintain good will and harmony with other longshore workers on the waterfront.

This requirement worked well for 26 years until Sultran made a bold and unprecedented switch to Certispec Services starting August 16,1998. Certispec Services is a non-union company.

Seattle ILWU Local 19 and Tacoma ILWU Local 23 chartered buses and transported many of its members to Vancouver to show support for Local 518.
